Excerpt
The literature proclaims quite a lot of publications dedicated to the analysis of works of art using mathematical tools and methodologies [1, 2, 3]. As a consequence of the intrinsic complexity of the works of art, the applicable mathematical support for the analysis may be very complex. Unfortunately, the immediate benefit refers mainly to the mathematicians, who are offered novel and sophisticated ways of analyzing works of art. These methods are quite difficult to be understood by potential beneficiaries in the areas of humanities, arts, so these solutions do not entail direct results within these areas. The only ones to enjoy them are the specialists on advanced mathematical methods. Our proposal concerns the substantiation of a method of analysis and synthesis (i.e. creation) of a work of art by involving an easy to use formalism based on systems theory. This paper mainly refers to the visual arts, with applications in art criticism, analysis methodologies for teaching and, finally, generation of artistic creation.
