Excerpt

WiMAX is the commercial name for wireless technology based on IEEE802.16 standard. The standard deals with some cases related to quality of service including methods of competition for obtaining channel but cases such as call admission and scheduling to allocate resources are mentioned generally and the exact methods and details of performing these methods are left to manufacturer. In this paper we propose methods for call admission, scheduling and sending request based on approximating traffic in order to guarantee quality of service for real time applications. Probability distribution function of available bandwidth is used for call admission. A double stage scheduler is used for scheduling and for sending request we use traffic estimation in which at the time of requesting bandwidth it considers traffic that will be received till allocating bandwidth. The methods are simulated via Matlab software .We focus on rtPS traffic and two scenarios are performed .One of them without estimator and the other one with estimator. We study delay parameter because rtPS traffic is sensitive to delay. Studying the results of delay charts shows that when we do not use estimator, delay exceeds its tolerated amount in some frames but in second scenario which estimator is used, delay is always in authorized range and the flag for quality of service violation is always zero.
